What is Juvederm?
Juvederm treatments inject hyaluronic acid into the skin. This compound lasts up to a year to fill out areas under wrinkles, lessening the appearance of lines on the face. There are two types of Juvederm. You may select Juvederm XC or Juvederm Voluma XC. Both are designed to correct more serious lines and wrinkles, but Juvederm Voluma XC is designed for use in the cheeks. Juvederm XC works best around the mouth and nose to fill out smile lines. The line reduction from using Juvederm XC only lasts for a year after the initial injection, but you may also opt for touch-ups to maintain your youthful appearance.
What is Sculptra?
Sculptra works differently from Juvederm. While Juvederm injects hyaluronic acid into the skin, Sculptra is a collagen injection. As people age, the skin loses its elasticity from a reduction in collagen. By replacing the lost collagen, Sculptra naturally corrects wrinkles with lasting results. This treatment is only used around the nose and mouth, and it may require up to three sessions before you see full wrinkle correction. Though you may have to have several appointments for Sculptra injections, the results can last two years or more.
Which one is best for me?
Both Juvederm XC and Sculptra treat the lines and wrinkles around your nose and mouth. The best injection option for you depends on what you want and how long you want the treatment to last. Juvederm Voluma XC will last for up to two years, and it is the only available option if you want to add volume to your cheeks. Sculptra is a better choice if you want fewer wrinkles around your nasolabial area for two years and do not mind going for three injections. Juvederm XC only requires one treatment, but the results do not last as long.
